Location: Tenderloin area
Hotel Adagio is located in the middle of downtown San Francisco. Union Square is just a short drive away, and Chinatown is nearby. It is the Marriott Autograph Collection Hotel, and I chose it because the room rate was cheaper than I expected. However, it turned out that this area is notorious for being a high-crime zone at night. Even during the day, there was at least one homeless person in every alley, but as night fell, their numbers increased, and the streets reeked of urine. I immediately understood why people say San Francisco has poor public safety. The Uber driver also mentioned that the homeless problem is most severe in this Tenderloin area.
Hotel facilities
The hotel has an old-fashioned feel to it, but it is well-maintained, giving it a classic vibe. There were comfortable sofas in the lobby, and the staff were friendly. Champagne was provided for Marriott Platinum members. With many elegant old buildings nearby, it really felt like I was in the United States.
The hotel elevators were narrow and there were only two, so I had to wait a bit. There is a gym where you can work out. There was no swimming pool. Fortunately, Wi-Fi was provided.

Room
The room felt more classic than sophisticated or modern. Dark green carpet covered the floor, and the bed was soft and spacious. The sofa was also comfortable. The bathroom was clean and had a shower, although it didn’t have a bathtub. It felt like a well-maintained hotel. The air conditioning worked well, so it wasn’t hot. In fact, it was cold, so I had to turn it off at night.

Breakfast
Marriott Platinum members and above are provided with a free breakfast, which can be enjoyed at the restaurant on the first floor. You can add a steak for an extra fee, so I added one to my meal. It is a typical American-style breakfast. The steak was bit dry and thin, and I don’t think it was worth adding. The portions were very generous, so I wasn’t hungry until lunchtime. The waiters were also very friendly and frequently refilled my coffee.

My stay at this hotel
The hotel staff were really friendly when I checked in. They also always kindly answered my questions. The security guard at the hotel entrance was also very kind and cheerful. It is sad that such a friendly hotel has to receive bad reviews because of its location.🥲
