A popular restaurant near Seoul City Hall where you can enjoy traditional Korean sundae

Korean sundae (순대) is a traditional Korean blood sausage that’s very popular as street food. Its main ingredients are Pig’s intestines stuffed with a mixture of cellophane noodles(dangmyeon), pork blood, barley or rice, and vegetables like scallions, garlic, or perilla leaves.

This restaurant is very famous for office workers near Seoul city hall. You should mark on the waiting list on the wall and stay for a few minutes during lunchtime.

Signage and restaurant exterior

Once you’re done waiting, your name will be called and you can come into the restaurant. Even at dinner time, there were a lot of people. Just sit where you’re directed.

We ordered a regular size bowl of noodles and assorted boiled pork. We didn’t order the osori gamtu, which means pig’s upper part of the stomach lining. It is chewy, a bit rubbery, but with a rich flavor when boiled.

Menu

You can eat the chopped onions and peppers by dipping them in ssamjang. Chives are added to hot sundae soup and eaten together. The red sauce is made spicy with shrimp paste, chili peppers, and green onions. You can dip the sundae in it and eat it. The square looking things are kimchi made with cubed radish. It’s sour and crunchy, so it’s good to eat between meals.

The sundaeguk comes out boiling hot, so don’t eat it first and wait a bit. Adding chives and perilla powder together adds flavor and makes the soup thicker and richer. It’s rich in sundae and pork, so it’s savory and filling.

Sundaeguk

Modeum suyuk, the assorted boiled pork platter comes with steamed sundae and boiled pork. It’s moist and odorless, making it a highly recommended dish. Dipping it in the accompanying red sauce is incredibly delicious. The portion is generous, too.
