A famous kalguksu restaurant in Myeongdong selected for the Michelin Bib Gourmand
This is a kalguksu restaurant that anyone visiting Seoul must try at least once. I visited the new branch that opened in Itaewon.
Myeongdong Kyoja is a family-owned place in operation since 1966. The restaurant, which offers only four items on the menu, specializes in dumplings and noodle soup.
It is a standalone store with restaurants on the first and second floors. If there are a lot of people, you will be guided to the second floor. Choose the menu you want at the kiosk and pay, and you will receive a coupon. Give this to the staff and they will bring out your food.
First of all, the kalguksu here is not the anchovy or bone broth style kalguksu that we are familiar with. The appetizing brown broth is said to be made by boiling chicken and onions. On top of that, they put a few small dumplings and meat. The price is reasonable at 11,000 won. One bowl will fill you up. If you run out of noodles, you can ask for an extra bowl of noodles or rice 😁
I also like the kongguksu here. The green noodles and thick white broth of the kongguksu may seem confusing to first-timers😅 But once you try it, the salty and rich refreshing kongguksu is superb.
By the way, the kimchi served here has a strong garlic flavor, so be careful 🥵
